.308 and up is better. The .223 is still lethal to humans, if they aren't wearing basic body armor.
Re: The OFFICIAL Firearm Thread
But thats the thing, despite it being light and a fragile round at it's high velocity, it still has a fair amount of penetration capabilities, even with "basic" body armor. The .308 may have more stopping power, but it's WAY less accurate than that of our standard round due to its less aerodynamic and heavier stance. I like the idea of Barrett's 6.8 SPC because it boasts the best of both worlds, higher speed / accuracy and stopping power. All in all, I will place a wager that neither the US military nor OpFor will change weapons / calibers within 8 - 10 years anyhow.MegaMonkeyChunk wrote:RZRsharpKLR wrote:Haha, that explains why our troops are waistin' so much ammunition....

I admit the .223 is accurate, but when it lacks the stopping power to terminate the threat at those distances where it is more accurate than the .308, its meaningless. Its the whole velocity and caliber debate. The 6.8 is pretty, but I dunno if it'll actually have staying power over either the .223 or .308. If I had to carry an AR type weapon as a primary, I'd have to take the AK for obvious reasons.
Also, I don't expect any major military to switch from using .223s anytime soon.
Re: The OFFICIAL Firearm Thread
I've got the pleasure of shooting and experimenting with the Barrett REC7 which is basically an M4A1 firing 6.8 SPC's, and ooooo'baby. That things' got quite the pop to it, and excellent range / spread consistancy, I was shooting targets at about 250 - 400 yards, efficiently. I only missed about 4/30 shots. In stopping power, my test was used 3 different pillows using .223/5.56mm and .308/7.62mm and the 6.8 SPC on entrance and exit damage, .223 obviously didn't have much, .308 you should know the outcome, and the 6.8 was a little different, it almost had equal amount of entrance/exit damage. Awkward? I think so.....MegaMonkeyChunk wrote:RZRsharpKLR wrote:But thats the thing, despite it being light and a fragile round at it's high velocity, it still has a fair amount of penetration capabilities, even with "basic" body armor. Re: The OFFICIAL Firearm Thread
Our troops are waisting so much ammo because the 5.56 round is totally useless. You think they would've learned their lesson in Somalia.
I firmly believe that all assault rifles should chamber a 7.62 round......it just makes sense.

Like I said, the 6.8SPC is pretty, but we'll have to wait and see if it has the staying power. Tons of different cartridges have come out over the years showing promise about how fast they go and their stopping power, but its all about that staying power.

REVOLVER RHINO 50DS 5" cal.357 mag 6 ROUNDS BLACK FINISH:
http://chiappafirearms.com/product/728
It comes in 2", 4", 5" and 6" barrels. Since the first 2 are prohibited in Canada, I guess I'll take the 5". If this ever comes out in .44 Magnum, I'm gonna literally run from my house to the closest store selling it and buy every single one they have.

Re: The OFFICIAL Firearm Thread
I'd want this if they made a full sized model instead of just compact and subcompact versions.
Glock 25 in .380 ACP:
http://www.impactguns.com/store/glock25.html
As of right now, the only .380 legal in Canada is the Beretta 86 which is impossible to find. Why does nobody want to make full sized .380s anymore?

Improper storage of a firearm. They'd try to take them away. But then again, they're ten cannons they have to take away. I'd like to see the cop that comes near your house to even try.

Re: The OFFICIAL Firearm Thread
I know have a boner:
Fabarm Martial Ultra Short 14" in 12 gauge:
http://www.fabarm.com/en/products-martial-ultra-short.htm
If only it only held 5 shots and had removable barrels so I could get an 18.5" barrel or however long I need to make it so the overall length is 26" and I could buy it as non restricted. Then I'd just take that barrel off and put on the regular 14" one when it arrives at my house
