The Web Browser Debate! Empty The Web Browser Debate!

Post  Dekaka Sun Jan 23, 2011 11:26 am

Not sure if debate threads are allowed here, but this isn't like a console war or anything, so I think I should be fine.

Everyone has their favorite browser, everyone has their least favorite, but we do not know which one is the best. I know it all comes down to personal opinion, but these type of threads can be interesting.

For me, I like Opera, I have a good PC so it runs well. I don't really know why, but it is my browser of choice.

Begin!

Chrome, then FireFox. Both work perfectly fine and have loads of great add ons.

I prefer Google Chrome for media, like Youtube and Facebook, and stuff similar. And I have this nifty music player extension that plays music on my browser without opening any additional windows. I use Firefox for schooling.....

I just stick with Firefox. I heard good things about Chrome and Opera, but I see no reason to just switch when Firefox works too.

Only problem is that it locks up my computer all the time. Hopefully Mozilla actually, you know, fixes something like this in Firefox 4.

  • Its Significantly Faster on quick connections
  • On slow connections, it has access to Opera Turbo which speeds everything up
  • Can customize exactly what I want to load, so again, on a slow connection, I can tell it not to load Images
  • Looks better (IMO)
  • Way more features: Visual Tabs, Mouse Gestures, Page-Fit-To-Width, Speed Dial, Opera Turbo, Opera Unite, Opera Link, Panels, Tab Thumbnails, Tab Stacking, Dragonfly

I can go on.

My biggest question is "Does Opera have an ad-blocker?"

And even so, is there really that much of an improvement that I should force myself to get accustomed to a new browser? I'm comfortable with Firefox. I don't want to have to get used to a new look-and-feel if I don't have to.

Yes, it has several ad-blockers. Including one built in.

Do whatever you want, I could care less what other people do.

Yeah but that's for iPod, so it will be crummy graphics on iPad.

Necroposting FTW!!!

Both IE9 and the Firefox 4.0 Release Candidate were released today, so I felt it was a proper time to resurrect the old debate.

Posting from IE9 right now, doesn't seem too quick at all. Although, I have to say, I like the GUI. Firefox 4 seems pretty similar to the betas, although they changed the tab design a bit.
