The OFFICIAL Firearm Thread
I HAVE FOUND MY HANDGUN. PLEASE JUST USE THIS THREAD TO DISCUSS FIREARMS
Ok, I am honestly thinking of buying a handgun. For this, I'd need to get a Possession and Acquisition License in Canada that allows me to own Restricted firearms (and Non-restricted as well). I would also have to go through the horrible registry system and register the handgun. Then, because I live in Quebec, I would have to sign up at a gun club and go there regularly or they confiscate your restricted firearms. But that is besides the point.
I am looking for suggestions according to what I have in mind and what Canada limits me to own. Here are the legal restrictions:
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/rp-eng.htm
A handgun with a barrel length of 105 mm (4.1 inches) or less
A handgun designed or adapted to discharge 25 or 32 calibre ammunition
Also what ever handgun they defined as prohibited (see link)
I was looking at either the Colt Double Eagle in 10mm, the Norinco NP-58 in .40 S&W (which is basically a Chinese clone of the SIG 226) or the Norinco NP-42 in 9x19mm Parabellum. The Colt would probably be used since they no longer manufacture it. The NP-58 is new, but I only trust it because its in use by the People's Liberation Army, same with the NP-42 (which is a civilian model of their standard sidearm, the QSZ-92. The only difference is the NP-42 can't attach a suppressor).
Now I won't be buying the handgun immediately so there's a long time for discussion. I'll probably buy it when I get my license after all this crap with the long gun registry is over and it is abolished. Note, the restricted firearm registry is not going away, just the Non restricted firearm registry. I'll buy all the firearms in a package (even though I will have to wait for the handgun to be registered before I can "acquire it".)
So let the suggestions fly. No obvious Desert Eagle or Beretta M9 or USP or anything from CoD.
Here are some pics if you're interested:

I don't know a lot about guns but I vote for the Norinco NP-58 because it looks sexy.

Lemme just tell you, Horatio Caine's most prominent sidearm is the SIG 229 which is the compact version of the SIG 226 which the NP-58 is a clone of.
Now what's your suggestion?

The only thing different is Horatio's is chambered for 9x19mm Parabellum.

Re: The OFFICIAL Firearm Thread
Hmm.... I'm looking at the Ruger Single Six in .17 HMR too. It's a single action revolver meaning you have to manually cock the hammer before every shot. Would be a great way to have fun at the end of the day instead of bringing out and firing the higher caliber stuff. Its also a rimfire though which means its gonna be hard for me to reload the cartridges myself so I'll have to buy them. That seems to be the only thing going against it.

I'm thinking of getting the Double Eagle so is that enough?
Plus, I hate that horrible grip safety on M1911s.

The NP-42 looks cool, I like the grip.
Since I know nothing about firearms, my opinion is limited to aesthetics.

The police use them here and from what I can tell, they're only used to kill unarmed and innocent people.

Well, I'm gonna give my opinion on those one at a time.
Glock 31: Well, from my experience holding and firing full sized Glocks (Mostly the Glock 17 Gen 2), I find they are a bit chunky for my hands. When I went on vacation in August, I had the opportunity to handle many Glock that I couldn't find in Canada (All compacts and subcompacts because their barrel lengths make them prohibited) and I found the Compact Glocks better fit my hand. I'll use the Glock 17 (9mm) as an example. It was a bit too chunky while the prohibited Glock 19 fit my hand a lot better. If the compact Glock weren't prohibited, I would have already decided on a pistol. BTW, the barrel of a compact Glock is 102mm (only 3mm shorter than what it allowed) so I am pretty frustrated they will make a big fuss over 3mm.
Sig Mosquito Pink Finish: Now, its not the pink that makes it undesirable to me, its the .22 LR, I can't reload them and no, its not the reloading you're thinking of. By reloading, I mean taking the empty brass, punching out the used primer, filling it with powder and putting in another bullet so I can save money on factory ammunition. Reloading is not that simple, but I broke it down so you could have a general idea. Other than that, the Sig Mosquito Pink Finish looks good, I even like the way the hot pink contrasts the Black.
H&K P30L: It looks really really good, but its not exactly what I'm looking for. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a very functional and reliable pistol, it just doesn't look like something I couldn't get from something else like the NP-42 (which I will mention again is used by the Chinese Army as their secondary weapon so it must be good).
Colt Gold Cup Trophy - Blue (It doesn't look blued but whatever): Like I mentioned earlier, I don't like 1911s. The Colt Double Eagle might look similar to a 1911 but it doesn't have the thing I despise most, that stupid grip safety.
Thank you for all the suggestions though DP. They're much appreciated.

Too bad the bodyarmor piercing rounds are illegal in Canada. Have to use regular non bodyarmor piercing rounds.

Exactly. Those darn trees always attacking my house.
Re: The OFFICIAL Firearm Thread
Look, I dun found another one though it isnt really a pistol. Also looking at the Vector SBR/SO which is basically a semi auto Vector only not with the huge ugly barrel the Vector CRB/SO has.
The BRS99 is the semi auto version of the PM-98 SMG freom Poland. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum and comes with a 5 round magazine. I definitely wont get 25 round mags because that would be illegal.
http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/default.asp?Pg=8&do=3&mcid=1&scid=12&pid=49
The TDI Vector SBR/SO is exactly like the regular full auto vector only its Semiauto only.

EDIT: KK also looking at the Type 54 which is a chinese clone of the TT-33 pistol. This was their standard sidearm for a long time and is still used by some troops in the army but it is being phased out.
