Proposition: Rep System

I propose that we institute a Rep System on this site. For those who don't know, a Rep System is a system for people to reward you when you post something helpful or funny that they enjoy. And, in place of a ban or warning, the mods/police may negative rep-somebody.

Advantages:

• Encourages people to post more
  
• Encourages people to post more constructively
  
• Less consequences to rule-breakers
  Instead of a warning or ban, they get -1 rep. Which amounts to much less argument between mods and members
  

Disadvantages:

• Hardline has to put it in place
  He's probably too lazy
  
• People may abuse it
  Countered by the fact that only Mods and Police can negative rep
  Also, there is a limit on how many +reps per day.
  

Thoughts?

Its a good idea, but thats going to be alot of editing that Hardline has to do. Changing peoples reps back and forth and keeping track of who posts what.

Thats not what I meant when I said "He has to put it in place"

There is a rep system in-place on forumotion already, he just has to enable it and specify it to his preferences. After that, it takes care of itself.

I added this, seems like a good idea. But if it gets abused, it will be removed.
I can just see people rating me and getting like a -15 rep. =_=

If you do not know how this works, there is a + and - symbol at the right side of a users post, click + to give them 1 rep point, click - to subtract one of their rep points.

Also, you must have at least 200 posts before getting the ability to add or subtract rep points from other members.

You can only rate 5 times a day and you must wait 600 seconds between each rating. This is to prevent an abuse of the system.

Just another way for people to boost their E-peen, or whatever it is you kids call it these days, and in my brief time here I've already noticed some inflated egos.

I dunno man, Hardline is really tearing it up right now. He'd leading in the race to -2000 rep. \

Also, is there some sort of rep leaderboard where we can see who's coming in second behind Hardline?

Is that was the + and - are on the side of posts?

I just click the minus sign to see what it did.

It doesn't show rep until you rate.
