Video Output Settings

To my understanding 1080p is the highest setting for HD. How does it compare to 480i , 480p, 720p, and 1080i. What does the "i" and "p" mean? Is there anything out there capable of more?

All widescreen formats have an aspect ration of 16:9
480P = 480 pixels width-wise. Considered widescreen, but not HD
720p = 720 pixels width-wise. Considered HD
1080P = 1080 pixels width-wise. Considered HD
1600P = 1600 pixels width-wise. Considered HD. Not used much.
As for, 480i, 720i, etc, I don't know.
